From Us To You...Thank You!

On behalf of the entire Northeast Shelby Republican Club...THANK YOU! Pasta and Politics 2009 was an amazing success. Nearly 250 people joined us for our annual fundraiser at the Memphis Area Homebuilder's Association.

We'd especially like to thank the four Republican Gubernatorial Candidates who attended; Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons, Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam, Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey, and Congressman Zach Wamp. They are all excellent candidates and one of them will be the next Republican Governor of Tennessee!

Dr. Larry Bates and Chuck Bates from IRN/USA Radio News provided the moderation and did an outstanding job! It wouldn't have been possible without their help.

Our Own Joyce Avery Is County Mayor

On Monday, Joyce Avery was sworn in as the first woman to hold the mayor's title in Memphis or the county. She promised a steady hand.

"As your mayor, I offer continuity in this time of transition," said Avery, 70, who received a standing ovation after she took the oath of office in County Commission chambers from former U.S. Atty. David Kustoff. Among the guests in attendance was her husband, Charles Avery, who suffered a stroke in 2007.

The County Commission on Monday set a Nov. 9 date to appoint an interim mayor, which means Joyce Avery's tenure as acting mayor of Shelby County will last just 15 days.
